Arisugawa-no-miya Memorial Park 有栖川宮記念公園
A hilly, steep-sided garden park in Minami-Azabu with a waterfall, carp pond and stream where embassy families and Hiroo locals spend Sunday afternoons.
About
This former residence of the Arisugawa and Takamatsu princes was given to the city in 1934 and now forms a beautifully landscaped, Japanese-style park on a slope beside Hiroo station. A stream tumbles down a small waterfall into a pond with turtles and fishing kids, paths climb through mossy woods to the Metropolitan Central Library, and in autumn the maples blaze. Because the neighbourhood is packed with embassies and international schools, the park has a cosmopolitan, relaxed local scene, dog walkers, sketchers and joggers, that is entirely unlike Tokyo's tourist gardens.
