Akabane Hachiman Shrine Shinkansen View 赤羽八幡神社 新幹線ビュー
A hilltop shrine built directly above the Shinkansen tracks, where you can photograph bullet trains disappearing beneath the shrine grounds.
About
Climb to Akabane Hachiman Shrine on the Akabanedai hill and walk to the fence at the edge of the precinct near the approach: below, the Tohoku, Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen and the Saikyo Line run into a tunnel that passes right under the shrine. With the torii or lanterns in the foreground and a bullet train sliding beneath, it is one of Tokyo's most unusual train-view spots. Trains pass every few minutes, and late afternoon gives warm light. This is an active shrine: pay respects first, keep tripods out of the approach and do not lean over the fence.
Highlights
- Shinkansen trains passing beneath a shrine
- Torii and lanterns as foreground
- Frequent trains for repeated attempts

Tips
- Use burst mode or a fast shutter; the trains are quick.
