Otsu Lakeside Promenade (Nagisa Park) 大津湖岸なぎさ公園
A long lakeside park along Lake Biwa in central Otsu, just 10 minutes from Kyoto by train, with cafes on the shore, a Michigan paddle steamer cruise and sunsets over the lake.
About
Nagisa Park runs for several kilometres along the Lake Biwa shore in Otsu, from the port area eastward toward Zeze. The landscaped promenade has lawns, flower beds, open-air cafes and benches facing the lake, with views of Mount Mikami ("Omi Fuji") across the water. From Otsu Port the paddle steamer Michigan runs lake cruises, and in summer the Biwako Fireworks Festival lights up the bay. It is the easiest taste of Lake Biwa from Kyoto: Keihan and JR trains reach Otsu in about 10 minutes.
