Shinsaibashi Station (Midosuji Line) 心斎橋駅(御堂筋線)
Osaka Metro's showpiece subway station: a long vaulted platform hall lit by a row of art-deco style chandeliers, a survivor of the lines grand 1930s design.
About
The Midosuji Line was Japan's first public subway, opened in 1933 with lofty vaulted platforms at Umeda, Yodoyabashi and Shinsaibashi. Shinsaibashi's high arched ceiling and glowing chandeliers, refreshed in a 2010s renovation that kept the classic look, make it the most elegant platform in Osaka. It's the stop for the Shinsaibashi-suji shopping arcade, Amerikamura, Midosuji's luxury boutiques and the Daimaru flagship.
