About

On the 9th floor of the Housing Information Center building, the Kurashi no Konjakukan recreates a block of Osaka's Tenma district around 1830 at real scale, built with traditional carpentry: merchant houses with lattice fronts, a bathhouse, a pharmacy, a book lender, alleyway nagaya and a fire watchtower. You take off your shoes and step into the houses, and the lights and sounds cycle through a day from morning birdsong to evening and thunderstorm. A kimono and yukata rental lets you walk the street in costume, the museums most popular feature on social media. The 8th floor has detailed dioramas of Osaka homes from the Meiji era to the post-war period. It is directly connected to Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome station, at the northern end of the shopping arcade.
