About
Tanzan Shrine was the Buddhist temple Tonomine until the Meiji separation of Shinto and Buddhism, which shows in its architecture. Its thirteen-storied pagoda, rebuilt in 1532, stands among maples that turn bright red in November. Lantern-hung verandas of the main hall look over the forested valley south of Sakurai.
