About
The Yamashina Canal is the stretch of the first Lake Biwa Canal from the exit of the first tunnel to Hinooka, about 4 km long. A footpath follows the water past brick canal structures and temples, under cherry trees in spring and maples in autumn. It forms part of a Japan Heritage site. Sightseeing boats on the Biwako Sosui Boat route glide past in season, and walkers often wave to passengers.
