About
Founded around 1000 AD, about when Imamiya Shrine was built, Ichiwa is often called Japan's oldest tea house (chaya). The only dish is aburi-mochi: small skewered rice cakes grilled over charcoal and coated in sweet white miso, served with hot tea in a wooden house facing the shrine approach. Kazariya, its rival across the lane, does the same dish.
