About

Gion Corner sits within the Yasaka Hall at Gion Kobu Kaburenjo, on Hanamikoji. Since 1962 it has served as a digest of traditional performing arts for visitors with little time. Each performance is a quick succession of short pieces, with maiko dancing kyomai (the Kyoto style of dance) as the highlight, along with koto music, gagaku, kyogen comedy, bunraku puppets, and tea ceremony and flower arranging demonstrations. It is not as intimate as an ozashiki with maiko, but it is the most accessible way to see a maiko perform.
