Mangetsu's ajari-mochi is a chewy, lightly sweet dough wrapped around red-bean paste, shaped after the hat of a mountain ascetic monk. It is one of Kyoto's most popular edible souvenirs, and the main shop near Kyoto University has the freshest stock. It has been a Tabelog Wagashi Hyakumeiten several times, most recently 2026.
