Goshobo 御所坊
Arima Onsen inn that began in the Kamakura period as 'Yuguchiya' and has received bathers for more than 800 years.
About
Arima, in the hills behind Kobe, is among Japan's oldest hot-spring towns; legend credits its discovery to the gods, and temples later managed the springs for court nobles. Goshobo says it started in the Kamakura period as Yuguchiya, an inn beside the spring head, and the house has welcomed guests for more than eight centuries. Its wooden building on a narrow lane of the old town is decorated with old calligraphy and Chinese poems that the family collects and writes about. The baths draw on Arima's iron-rich 'golden' water.
