About

Nihonji is said to have been founded about 1,300 years ago and covers much of the southern face of Mt. Nokogiri, a former stone quarry. Trails link a 31 m Yakushi Buddha carved from the rock, a 30 m Kannon relief cut into the cliff, and hundreds of rakan figures. The Jigoku Nozoki overhang offers dramatic views over Tokyo Bay.
