Choromatsu チョロ松
Beppu's beloved old-school izakaya in Kitahama since 1955, serving toriten, seki-saba sashimi, local shochu and Oita comfort food to a mix of locals and onsen-goers.
About
Choromatsu has been pouring drinks near the Kitahama seafront since the mid-1950s and remains a reliable all-rounder: a long counter and tatami rooms, a big menu of Oita specialities including toriten, ryukyu (marinated sashimi), seki-aji and seki-saba from the Saganoseki straits when available, dango-jiru and grilled items, plus Oita barley shochu and local sake. It's lively, unpretentious and walkable from Beppu Station and the Kitahama hotels, so it works well for a first night in Beppu.
